Indoor sensor range

by Mark Rowe

FlipX is a new range of indoor sensors from OPTEX, the sensor manufacturer. The products feature a bespoke pyroelectric sensor that adapts to the human shape, and a lens that can be ‘flipped’ to provide narrow and wide detection in a single sensor.

This ‘flipped’ lens effectively gives installers ‘two sensors in one’, the manufacturer says, to satisfy customer demands and help installers manage inventory and their cashflow. By rotating the lens through 180 degrees, the sensor can be used to protect a narrow or long area such as a hallway up to 18m, or a wide area such as a living room or retail store up to 12m at 85 degrees.

FlipX Standard, the first in the series, is a Grade 2 sensor, that also features a digitally enhanced signal recognition logic called Super Multi-Dimensional Analysis (SMDA), for avoiding nuisance alarms caused by changes of light or temperature.

Masaya Kida, Managing Director for OPTEX EMEA, says: “Following significant investment in research, technology and engaging with our customers to gather feedback and key insights into what they look for in indoor security solutions, we are pleased to announce the roll out of our innovative FlipX sensor series.

“With our bespoke lens design and pyro element, the new sensors provide enhanced detection performance and high flexibility. By simply flipping the lens to change the detection shape from narrow to wide, FlipX delivers the power of two sensors in one. The sensor also includes a 180 degree cover lock and an easy viewable LED light, making installation quick and easy.”

FlipX sensors have flexible mounting height options (between 2-3m) meaning they can blend into the aesthetics of a residence, as well as buildings with higher ceilings. With an optional bracket it can be mounted on the wall or ceiling.

FlipX Standard is available as a passive infra-red (PIR) model – FLX-S-ST – and for more challenging indoor uses as a dual-technology (PIR and microwave) model – FLX-S-DT. The latter comes with OPTEX’s microwave module, for more durability of the sensor, particularly in humid climates, and higher levels of capture performance by tailoring the microwave to the IR detection area. OPTEX plans to release other models in the FlipX series in late 2022 to early 2023.
