Locks for campus

by Mark Rowe

Like other university campuses, Loughborough’s has miles and miles of electrical cabling, gas piping and data communications, which demand a responsive engineering team to safely and securely maintain it.

The engineering suite’s master keys are the most expansive on site and required security with convenience, when managing the large number of keys and cylinders. ASSA, part of ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, a UK division of ASSA ABLOY, the door and opening product company, has supplied its CLIQ electromechanical locks to the engineering suite at Loughborough.

The CLIQ Remote product allows only those with the necessary authority to obtain access to private areas, without inconveniencing others. The product lets users create time defined user keys, allowing access for a specified time. This is a useful feature for maintenance workers and contractors who may need to access the engineering suite outside normal working hours, according to the product firm.

Simon Wilson, National Sales Manager – CLIQ Remote, at ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, said: “Having worked with Loughborough University on a number of high profile projects, it was an honour to help the university make the right decision for their key management. ASSA’s CLIQ Remote delivers the highest level of security from a key solution, whilst enabling the convenience of access control. CLIQ is an investment that could safeguard Loughborough university’s vital services, which will result in long term cost savings.”

And Phil Sheppard from Loughborough University, said: “ASSA ABLOY have provided a multitude of trustworthy security solutions across our campus over the years. Consequently, we turned to ASSA’s expertise to deliver an easy to operate electromechanical solution, that would provide both high security and convenience of use – CLIQ was our preferred choice.

“CLIQ allows us to easily overview what happens in the lock system, through providing an audit trail archive. It also has a strong patent that will protect our keys from being illegally copied throughout the time that the patent is valid, making it an optimal security solution for us.”
