360 degree PTZ

by Mark Rowe

VIVOTEK has launched its 360 degree Panoramic PTZ, developed by the VIVOTEK R&D team. Incorporating the company’s latest 5-Megapixel fisheye fixed dome network cameras SF8172/72V and a 2-Megapixel full HD speed dome network camera SD8362E, the product provides a 180 degree panoramic view or 360 degree surround view without blind spots, allowing users to simultaneously monitor an overview from a fisheye model and a detailed regional view from a speed dome.

The combination of a fisheye global view and a speed dome means the fisheye camera’s global view is used as the ‘command’ unit to detect events over an entire area, and the dome acts as the ‘slave’ to track and optically zoom in on suspicious objects for more detail. By activating the auto tracking feature, the fisheye is used to trigger the speed dome to track moving objects automatically before an operator may be aware of an event. The makers say the combination makes Panoramic PTZ suitable for department stores, station lobbies, airports, casino, parking lots, and any open area, where monitoring and video details are needed.

SF8172/72V and SD8362E, both come with high megapixel resolution sensors, removable IR-cut filters, and wide dynamic range (WDR), are able to cope with challenging lighting and secure images 24 hours. Both cameras, enclosed with IP66-rated housings, are able to secure the camera body to withstand rain and dust, ensuring operation under harsh weather.

The SD8362E can withstand a temperature range between minus 40C and 55 degrees C, while SF8172V, with a vandal-proof IK10-rated housing, can resist physical damage.
Steve Ma, VIVOTEK’s Executive VP, said: “Panoramic PTZ is a revolutionary design based on VIVOTEK’s profound R&D base and expands our existing technologies to the next level. The innovation and originality of Panoramic PTZ have been well recognised by international awards, such as the German-based GIT 2013 Security Award and “The Best Innovation Product Award” from the MIPS show in Russia respectively.”
