More information
People take to the streets in support of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The 15-mile route is between The Royal Marsden’s Chelsea and Sutton hospitals, or the family-friendly five-mile distance. There is also the option to take on The Banham Marsden March at Home, which allows people to choose their own route and distance anywhere in the UK or around the world.
Since the event began in 2011, it has raised over £21m for the charity, thanks to the efforts of all those who have taken part and the support of security providers Banham, as the title sponsor and through their employees who sign up to fundraise and take part. Banham celebrates its centenary in 2026.
Charles Hallatt, Executive Chairman at Banham, said: “The Banham Marsden March is an inspiring day that I, and everyone at Banham, look forward to immensely. Since 2015, more than 700 members of Team Banham have taken part and raised over £200,000 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. As we mark our company’s 100th year, we are incredibly proud to continue this partnership into its 11th year, supporting the vital, life-saving work carried out at The Royal Marsden every single day.”
Diane’s story
Diane Hoy, 72, from Oxted, took part in the march in 2025 to mark two years of being cancer-free. Following her diagnosis with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, she was referred to The Royal Marsden and had CAR-T therapy – a pioneering type of immunotherapy which harnesses the patient’s immune system to recognise and attack cancer cells. This type of cellular therapy research at The Royal Marsden is supported by funding from the charity. After getting the all clear, Diane now attends The Royal Marsden for monitoring.
She said: “The Banham Marsden March was a fantastic experience and one that I’ll never forget. It was the first time I’d been back to Chelsea since my treatment at The Royal Marsden which saved my life. I remember thinking about all the time I spent there – it was definitely very poignant on the day.
“The atmosphere was fantastic, and there were some lovely stops on route as we walked – with people cheering you on every step of the way. My grandsons, who were four and six at the time, met up with us and we all walked the last couple of miles together. I’m so glad we had that experience as a family.”
Antonia Dalmahoy, Managing Director of the charity, said: “Each May, our amazing supporters, alongside the incredible team at Banham, are out in force at The Banham Marsden March to help save the lives of cancer patients everywhere. We are so grateful to them for their generosity, as well as our team of volunteers whose hard work helps to make this such an enjoyable and successful day.
“It’s a particularly special year to take part, as 2026 is Banham’s centenary year, while The Royal Marsden is celebrating 175 years of innovation in cancer research, treatment and care. Our supporters have made so much of this life-saving work possible, and everyone at The Banham Marsden March will be helping the Charity to continue funding research to diagnose cancer earlier and develop personalised treatments for patients around the world.”
