Anna Maria Manadalari explores the latest cybersecurity research keeping us safe in the Internet of Things. The rapid spread of internet-connected devices has transformed our homes, cities and workplaces, bringing convenience, interconnectivity and innovation. However, alongside the positives, it has also created new opportunities for crime, surveillance, and exploitation. Common ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) devices such as smart speakers, cameras, wearables, and connected home systems can be misused; also covered, what this means for the public and how industry and policymakers are responding to these challenges.
Drawing on research and investigations, she will discuss emerging security and privacy risks, highlight the technical and social challenges in detecting IoT threats, and outline practical steps we can take to build safer, more transparent connected technologies.
