Background
Located across five interconnected buildings in Glasgow’s city centre, McLays Guest House is a well-established hotel serving tourists, business travellers, and long-term guests. With a complex layout and high footfall across multiple entry points, ensuring effective and reliable surveillance had long been a priority for hotel management.
The site’s existing analogue CCTV system offered limited coverage and low image resolution, falling short of the operational and safety requirements of a modern hospitality environment. Working with specialist installers Procom, McLays Guest House sought a scalable, high-definition solution to improve visibility across the site, enable real-time monitoring, and provide advanced AI tools to assist with investigations
Solution
Procom deployed a comprehensive IP-based security solution using Dahua Technology’s WizMind and WizSense product ranges. In total, 115 cameras were installed throughout the hotel’s five buildings, covering all visible areas, corridors, communal zones, and entrances, as well as delivering wide-angled external views of the surrounding streets
A powerful DHI-NVR616H-128-XI network video recorder (NVR) was installed in the hotel’s main office, paired with a 24-port aggregation switch and multiple cloud-managed Gigabit PoE switches, forming an isolated, dedicated camera network. A secondary NVR2108-I2 unit was used at the reception to monitor fire exit areas. Wireless point-to-point transmission was used to connect Building 5 without laying new cables
Dahua’s 6MP and 8MP TiOC PRO and DUO cameras were strategically placed both internally and externally. The TiOC DUO camera at the front of the hotel offers 180-degree coverage, maximising visibility while reducing the number of units required. Internally, Smart Dual Turret cameras were installed on every floor and in guest rooms, providing 24/7 full-colour imaging and audio capabilities in key risk areas.
AI-powered features like SMD and AcuPick enable fast, accurate searches. A multi-output NVR drives real-time monitoring on dual 65-inch displays. Cloud-managed switches support easy maintenance, while the DMSS app provides secure remote access.
Result
The new Dahua surveillance system provides McLays Guest House with high-resolution coverage of every internal and external visual area, improving operational oversight and supporting incident investigation. The advanced AI features allow hotel staff to track persons of interest across buildings, enhancing both security and guest safety.
The site can now respond faster to events, detect suspicious behaviour in real-time, and manage safety concerns with greater confidence. With a future-proof IP system in place, McLays Guest House has significantly raised its security standards while laying Dahua’s 65” Monitors the groundwork for scalable expansion.
