Connelly acquisition

by Mark Rowe

The Scottish law firm Harper Macleod has advised Connelly Group Holdings (CGH) on its acquisition of Fife-based Security & Fire Systems (Scotland) Limited trading as Scottish Security & Fire Systems.

Connelly Group Holdings, recognised by its Connelly Security Systems (CSS) brand, was founded in 1986 in Bishopbriggs by brothers Jim, Pat and Paul Connelly. Glasgow-based CGH has grown, acquiring around 30 security businesses over recent decades, with a presence across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Ayrshire, Stirling, and the Highlands. Paul Connelly, pictured, was interviewed in the January 2023 edition of Professional Security Magazine.

Kirkaldy-based Scottish Security & Fire Systems, an industry specialist for more than 32 years, installs and maintains intruder alarms, CCTV and fire alarms, catering to both residential and commercial clients.

The acquisition comes as Scottish Security & Fire Systems owner, Harry Meldrum, who led the NSI Gold & BAFE accredited firm, steps back due to a long-term illness. Harry will remain involved in a part-time capacity.

All staff at Scottish Security & Fire Systems will be retained, with Derek Kane, a veteran with 28 years’ of service, continuing to lead the day-to-day operations. CGH plans to recruit further.

Paul Connelly, CEO of Connelly Group Holdings, said: “Closing a deal with a friend is a special moment for our business. This acquisition allows us to further enhance the front-line service response of both CSS and Scottish Security & Fire Systems, enabling us to deliver even greater value and services to our clients across the region. Following completing this deal with my friend, and as we approach the 40 year anniversary of the Connelly Group business, I now look forward to working with my children on the business succession of Connelly Group.”

Paul Macdonald, a corporate and M&A partner at Harper Macleod, has advised the Connelly Group on transactions for the past decade. Paul was supported on the transaction by Aiden Paterson (Corporate), Duncan Walker (Corporate), Caroline Summers (Commercial Property), Scott Milligan (Employment) and Claire Fowler (Employment).

Paul said: “I have supported the Connelly Group with ten acquisitions now and was delighted to help with this geographically strategic addition to the group. I am confident that the business and people of Scottish Security & Fire Systems will continue to flourish as part of the Connelly Group.”
