CSyP dinner

by Mark Rowe

The sumptuous Ironmonger’s Hall, one of the great livery hall buildings of the City of London, was the venue for the annual dinner of the Register of Chartered Security Professionals (CSyP) , on Monday, September 23.

The evening opened, after the usual and all-important conversations on gathering, with a formal address from Don Randall MBE CSyP FSyI, pictured front right, one of the founders of the Register. In it, he welcomed all new CSyPs and guests, and spoke about the enduring success of the Register and its increasing importance in the security profession before introducing the new chair of the Chartered Security Professionals Registration Authority (CSPRA), Ian Dyson QPM DL, pictured front left, who was City of London Police Commissioner before retiring after a police career.

Mr Dyson addressed all of the fresh faces, and spoke to his pride at being appointed chair and the enduring legacy of his predecessor, Baroness Ruth Henig CBE JP DL, who died in February. This was followed by a rousing speech from the consultant Mike Bluestone CSyP FSyI, pictured front centre, who read the citations of all the new members in attendance who received their fresh CSyP certificates on the day.

A three course dinner was then enjoyed, with a final keynote address from the Director of UK National Authority for Counter-Eavesdropping (NACE). Don Randall closed the night’s proceedings with a special thanks to new Chartership Administrator Andreea Mocanu BA (Hons) MBA and Chartership Consultant Di Thomas Hon FSyI for all their hard work.

Organisers thank the sponsors of the evening: the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP), Nineteen Events and LMS Security Advisors.

About CSyP

The CSyP featured most recently in the July edition of Professional Security Magazine (‘A gold standard‘), when Corps Security hosted a thank-you evening for the paid administrators and in the main volunteers who assess those applying to become CSyPs and make it all possible.

The Security Institute manages the CSyP, on behalf of the WCoSP; the Master of the WCoSP is ex officio a member of the CSPRA management committee. You gain that status by applying, and going through what some do find a quite thorough and lengthy, even challenging though in itself rewarding, process of showing your professionalism and qualities – security knowledge, practical application, communication, leadership and personal commitment; and have to go through annual CPD (continuous professional development) to retain the status; and CSyPs are required to conform to a Code of Professional Conduct.
