Phoenix door open

by Mark Rowe

A Newcastle based Security Company who specialise in the door supervision sector, is proposing a Joint venture/partnership model, to take its name nationally. Even though they already offer a national service they are looking to increase their infrastructure even further to offer a one stop shop within their sector.

Newcastle-based Phoenix Security points to the upcoming change in SIA licensing besides the many night-time pub and club changes. The firm suggests that business licensing besides badging for each doorman will likely result in more security businesses leaving the sector. Ever more licensed premises have a set number of door supervisors as a condition of their license; they also add that, more town and city centre hotels and fast-food outlets are also requiring door staff. Phoenix sees this as an opportunity to expand, pointing to its professionalism and reputation within the sector and its robust management structure. Phoenix chief executive Neill Winch comments that this is a window of opportunity to expand within our sector. Managing Director Steve Howe who has over 28 yearsโ€™ experience also comments, there are massive changes due to come into force within our industry and many security companies will simply not be in a position to cope with the additional administration and costs. They are offering individuals with security experience to open a joint venture business in their region as a 50-50 partner with Phoenix. Phoenix are also looking to existing door security companies to enter into joint venture/partnerships, and point to advantages of being part of something larger. Phoenix argues that the SIA business licensing will bring more cost and make it harder for smaller operators to compete or even survive. The long term strategy is to ultimately float the business and further expand the brand.
