Security Support Services has won a contract to manage the electronic security and monitoring operations of the Co-op.

Security Support Services (SSS) Ltd, the provider of outsourced security management services, has won a contract to manage the electronic security and monitoring operations of retail chain, the Co-operative Group(CWS)Ltd. This marks the latest expansion of SSS?s retail client base. Under the terms of the performance-related contract, SSS will be responsible for managing all security alarms, CCTV and other monitoring systems employed by the Co-operative Group throughout its chain of UK superstores, market town and Welcome stores. The contract will see SSS undertake this operation initially for three years until 2003. The company will also be responsible for the supervision of all security equipment procurement and maintenance, contract negotiations and ensuring that ancillary costs and working practices are properly regulated. Julia McLardy, Head of Loss Prevention for the Co-operative Wholesale Group (CWS), said: ?SSS has a strong reputation for achieving substantial cost savings on behalf of its clients. We are keen to draw on their unique skills in this field to support our own security function and centralise all operations in an integrated manner. This will allow us to focus on enjoying all the benefits of an in-house system but without so many of the fixed term overheads that such a system usually entails.?
What SSS says
Terry Baker, Managing Director of SSS, said: ?We are delighted to win this contract. Our track record working with some of this country?s most demanding blue-chip companies speaks for itself.? As a major part of its operation, SSS owns and operates a NACOSS-approved Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), accredited to BS 5979: 1993 and BS EN ISO 9002. This facility is able to monitor audio signals, digitised video signals, Paknet and BT RedCare alarm signalling networks, as well as receiving full text descriptions of alarms generated. This enables all necessary data to be compiled, providing the Co-operative Group with daily data management reports, and ensuring that proper false alarm management procedures are followed at all times. Among the blue chip client companies serviced by SSS are: B&Q, Esso, Kwikwave, Mappin & Webb, Homebase, Somerfield Stores, Waitrose and Watches of Switzerland.
