Patent Protection

by Msecadm4921

Mirasys and ObjectVideo have announced a new patent licence agreement, which will be a worldwide, non-exclusive, and royalty-bearing deal, covering Mirasys NVRs and some VMS solutions. As video content analysis is increasingly becoming an enabler of proactive CCTV monitoring, the agreement reflects, the firms say, a need to protect solutions to promote further innovation in the market. Mirasys customers will now be protected from ObjectVideo patent infringements.

โ€œWe are extremely excited that our Open Video analytics platform is being recognised as an industry-leading initiative, and are very much looking forward to be working closely with ObjectVideo โ€“ the industry leader, which Mirasys considers to have one of the strongest innovation and patent portfolios in the market,โ€ said Jukka Riivari, chief executive officer at Mirasys. โ€œWe see this as a multi-faceted relationship which is set to evolve throughout 2011, both through this patent licensing agreement, and through future product announcements, which will provide Mirasys customers with VCA software solutions which are at the very forefront of industry innovation.โ€

To protect the intellectual property associated with its VCA products, ObjectVideo says that it has developed a patent portfolio over the past 10 years.

โ€œWe are very pleased to work with Mirasys as a new licensee of our intellectual property portfolio,โ€ said Raul Fernandez, CEO and chairman of ObjectVideo. โ€œWith the signing of this agreement, we continue the build-out of the patent licensing program we launched eighteen months ago to protect the inventions and innovations in which ObjectVideo has invested for more than 10 years. Mirasys recognises the value of this portfolio, and will be able to provide full technology and patent licensing to all of their valued customers.โ€
