News from Cheshire Police about the safe drinking scheme ArcAngel….
The safety of people who choose to socialise and have a drink in Sandbach town is one of the main aims of the ArcAngel protected town scheme awarded to Sandbach last year.
A number of premises achieved the standard required by the police, local council and community in Sandbach to drive out irresponsible behaviour by those who drink in the town, and those who serve or sell alcohol in the town.
The ArcAngel accredited premises scheme ensures licensees work towards and maintain standards recommended in the ArcAngel voluntary code of conduct. The standards are enforced by those agencies who hold responsibility for licensing enforcement. They help to provide reassurance to anyone who uses the premises that licensee put public safety at the heart of their business.
One of the accredited premises on the High Street – The Black Bear, achieved ArcAngel status last year. However, the premise has failed to maintain the standard required, therefore the official recognition of the premises under the scheme is to be removed.
It is important that members of the public are aware that the premise has lost its ArcAngel status. The standards associated with the scheme make sure that anyone who uses the premise can expect to visit a premise that is responsibly run where staff are appropriately trained.
Inspector Mark Gammage who was instrumental in the introduction of the ArcAngel scheme to Sandbach said: โรรบThe introduction of the ArcAngel Protected Town scheme to the town centre has had a real impact. People coming into the town centre are reassured by the scheme and know the standards in place help to ensure their safety whilst they are out having a drink.
โรรบThe Black Bear has failed in its promise to those who want to drink on their premise by failing to meet the standard we expect and enforce on behalf of the public. We will remove the ArcAngel award and the premise will go to a formal licensing review.
"The ArcAngel protected town status is all about enforcing and protecting the public within the night time environment and any premise who fails to put the public’s safety first, can expect to face the same consequence as the The Black Bear.โรรน
