SiteWatch Wellbeing

by msecadm4921

The site of the new multi-million pound Health & Wellbeing Centre in Chadderton, Oldham is being protected by a SiteWatch security system from Rochdale-based installer Leerose Integrated Systems.

The system has been rented for the duration of the construction project which began last summer and it will continue to provide round the clock site protection until the development’s scheduled completion in September 2009. The Health & Wellbeing Centre is a multi-purpose development – a swimming pool, dance studio, library, gym, meeting rooms, cafe and a community police hub. It has been developed with the Oldham LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) and Community 1st Oldham which includes Oldham Council, Oldham Primary Care Trust and Greater Manchester Police Services.

The SiteWatch system comprises colour, zoom lens dome cameras that monitor the site and feed ‘real time’ images back to a SiteWatch video management system for remote monitoring. Perimeter protection is by external passive infra red (PIR) detectors which are strategically positioned to deter would-be thieves or vandals, whilst a horn and loud speaker system can be used to alert or challenge intruders on site. Collectively these devices have removed the need for permanent manned guards on the site out of working hours.

Construction of the new centre is by Carillion Building. Its site manager, Paul Doyle said: “The Leerose SiteWatch system has to date ensured this has remained a trouble-free construction site. Highly visible cameras, tannoys and signage are proving a major deterrent to would-be intruders and this will become increasingly important as the development comes to its conclusion over the summer and we start to install higher value items such as copper pipe work, sanitary ware and tiles.”

Leerose director, Graeme Oliver added: “The Health & Wellbeing Centre is a very significant community initiative in Oldham and it’s important that it is completed to the highest specification and on schedule without any disruption from theft or vandalism. This is precisely the type of development where SiteWatch can prove its worth as a vital security system and a highly effective crime deterrent.”
