R-IDENT is a new tagging system from automation firm Colter Distribution. Consisting of transmitters that have roughly the same proportions as a cigarette pack and receivers about twice this size, the R-IDENT system is suitable for applications that include trailer tracking, monitoring boats in a marina, and other kinds of asset protection. The tags have a unique identification number that is transmitted, with status information, three times a minute. These signals are picked up by R-IDENT receivers at distances of up to 200m away. The weatherproof, self-contained tags can monitor up to two input signals, the status of which is transmitted along with the tag ID. Battery life of the tags is eight years. Receiver options allow for local monitoring of up to 100 tags to a PC database or event-driven text messages can be sent to a mobile phone.
