Tynemouth Festival

by Msecadm4921

Northumbria Police officers are rolling Operation Iron into Tynemouth, with police supporting festival events. Officers will be carrying out extra patrols during the annual Mouth of the Tyne festival – which attracts a large crowd of visitors and residents.

Inspector Geoff Cross, of North Shields Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "The festival is a great fixture for Tynemouth which attracts thousands of visitors to the village and we want to make sure that everyone enjoys the event safely. It generates a great atmosphere and gives a welcome boost to the area.

"Operation Iron is a well tested initiative which aims to reduce crime and disorder and reassure residents and visitors. We want to make sure everyone has a good time in a safe environment which is why we’re running the operation now."

Officers will also be carrying out a number of initiatives during the operation which runs from Wednesday July 6, to Friday 15.

They will be working with partners, including North Tyneside Council, on joint patrols. Police will also be carrying out pub walk-throughs and checking licensed premises, to assist bar staff and reassure customers.

Patrols will also be targeting anti-social behaviour as well as tackling underage drinkers in the village. There are also crime prevention activities, including a bike marking event at James Knott Nursery.

Marcus Jackson, area officer within the councilโ€™s Environmental Services team, said: โ€œOperation Iron is an example of how organisations can work together to tackle issues that matter to communities.

โ€œOur team will be supporting the police with patrols to tackle dog fouling in the area. We have received national praise for the cleanliness of our environment and we want to ensure it remains clean and tidy.โ€
