Protection of Premises online course

by Mark Rowe

The UK police company Police Crime Prevention Initiatives’s arm the Police Crime Prevention Academy has launched a ‘Protection of Premises’ course with an eye to the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill, familiarly known as Martyn’s Law.

Figen Murray, campaigner for the law, has undertaken the course and commented: “The layout was very good, it is all very clear. I really like it.”

Michael Brooke from Police CPI said: “The course will be updated whenever needed as the Bill passes through Parliament and possible adjustments are made. This will mean that those who undertake the course can be assured that they are receiving current and accurate information. I would add that whilst the new Bill may take several months before coming into law, there is no reason to delay in gaining the understanding needed to make changes to security practices now. The sooner, the better, in the interests of protecting the public and staff at all venues.”

– Schedule 1 – Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Bill (types of premises that is likely to be included in the legislation)
– The ‘responsible person’ and their duties
– Standard and enhanced duty premises
– The tools to assist you to conduct a terrorism evaluation or risk assessment; and
– The importance and guidance on locating Counter Terrorism training opportunities.

The cost is £15 plus VAT. You can pay by credit card via the Academy website or by a PO number for bulk purchase. Once you have enrolled, you will have access for 12 months and be notified as the Bill is updated and passes through Parliament.

As featured in the September edition of Professional Security Magazine, Martyn’s Law – arising from the May 2017 Manchester Arena terrorist attack, and Inquiry – was part of the King’s Speech in July, as a guide to the new Labour Government’s legislative intentions for the next year.
