A visual arts gallery and charity in Nottingham, recently had a refurbishment. It included IP-connected door entry, designed and installed by Cookson & Son with the product distributor CIE Group.
Primary Gallery & Community Hub is in a grade II listed Victorian school building. The charity recently re-opened to the public after building works with a focus on welcome and inclusion. Their focus on accessibility meant a need for an easy to use, yet secure access control and door entry system to meet the needs of staff and visitors.
An outdated security and access control system was in need of upgrade. Hence, as part of the refurb, a new door entry system was fitted to replace the previous analogue products throughout the gallery, communal and workspaces. A local gate and access control installer, Cookson & Son, worked with the CIE in-house system designers to specify IP-connected door intercom and access control, which would integrate with the building’s security hardware and automated gates.
As the building is close to the City’s nightlife area, the charity wanted the products specified to be resistant to vandalism or tampering. This led the specifying of the Akuvox X912 vandal-resistant smart intercom device for the high-traffic, higher risk locations due to the IP and IK ratings of the device.
Positioned at the street-side automatic gates and main door entrances, the Akuvox X912S intercom unit features a high definition (HD) colour camera, audio and a variety of touch and contactless access authentication technologies (digital keypad, face recognition, Bluetooth, Radio Frequency Identification – RFID, and QR Code). The X912S is described as a smart IP door intercom with multiple contactless authentication options including PIN code. Its weatherproof design (IK09/IP65) makes it suitable for outdoor and high-impact settings, the distributor adds.
For the indoor areas, the Akuvox C315S offers a touchscreen door entry monitoring panel. This Android-powered device provides HD video and audio via SIP 2.0, making it suitable the distributor says for residential and multi-unit buildings. Its seven-inch HD capacitive touchscreen display offers a compact design, that gives integration with the Akuvox X912S and other Akuvox intercom products.
