British Supersport Championship, Round 9 – Donington Park

by Mark Rowe

Taylor Mackenzie produced his best ever display in Tyco Suzuki livery, with a fine fifth place in the second of this weekend’s British Supersport races at Donington Park. He now holds ninth place in the championship standings after nine round of the twelve round series.

Starting from eighth place on the grid, 20-year-old Mackenzie worked his way past some more experienced riders and was rapidly closing down current champion Glen Richards when the red flags were deployed after 14 of the scheduled 18 laps. Such was his pace, he also set the fourth fastest lap of the race, giving him great confidence going to Assen in two weeks’ time.

Taylor said after the race: “The whole team have been working so hard over the last few race weekends to get us where we are now. We took a step backwards to take two forwards, but it was definitely worth it as my GSX-R600 is working better than ever now.

“The next three tracks really suit my riding style so I can’t wait to get stuck in. To have the fourth fastest lap of the race and come home only five seconds behind the winner shows the progress we’ve made, and I just want to keep carrying that forward now until the end of the season.”
