Birmingham City Council’s construction company Carillion has appointed MAN Commercial Protection to take on full scope of security of the new Library of Birmingham.

They have made sure everything has run smoothly in the run up to its opening – including events around the library.

The £188.8 million Library of Birmingham will open on Tuesday, September 3 after being guarded by MAN Commercial Protection since work started in January 2010. Carillion appointed MAN Commercial to take on the full scope of security during the library’s construction. At times this encompassed adjusting for events at the neighbouring International Convention Centre (ICC) including party political conferences.

Robert Yates, quantity surveyor at Carillion, adds: “We have used the services of MAN Commercial Protection throughout the construction process of the library and have always found them to be professional and accommodating.”

In Centenary Square, Birmingham’s new library is said to be the largest public library in Europe and is expected to attract 3.5 million visitors annually.

Iain McCallister, founder of MAN Commercial Protection, says: “This is such a prestigious project and it’s in my home town. I’m so proud that our team’s professionalism has never wavered given the challenges they’ve overcome. Carillion has been great to work with. There is a huge amount of excitement about this high-profile new library which will mean so much for Birmingham. It was a huge project for us. So many of our team feel part of that building.”
