SIA in Scunthorpe op

by Mark Rowe

Security Industry Authority (SIA) staff and Humberside Police carried out a joint operation in Scunthorpe town centre on Friday night, September 6.

What the regulator terms an intelligence-led operation was across seven venues, including bars and clubs, checking 20 door supervisors.

Of those inspected, all were correctly licensed apart from one; the SIA and police are making further enquiries. One warning was issued to a door supervisor for failing to display his licence, which is a breach of SIA licensing conditions.

Head of Investigation Lucia Howland said afterwards: โ€œThe SIA is very keen to partner Humberside Police who regularly undertake checks of licensed premises and door supervisors as part of their objectives to reduce crime and disorder in the night time economy.

โ€œThis partnership approach enables us to gather intelligence and engage with individuals and security companies to ensure they are working legally and to prosecute those who are not.โ€

And Licensing Officer for North Lincolnshire Lisa Vines said: โ€œFully trained door supervisors have a huge role to play in keeping licensed premises safe for revellers. On the whole the checks were positive; however, further checks into one door supervisor are being addressed by Humberside Police and the SIA.

โ€œWe will continue to work with our partners at the SIA to ensure that professional, trained and qualified door supervisors work at pubs and clubs in the area.โ€
