CCTV Forum

The third CameraWatch Forum is scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, February 26 at Canary Wharf, London.

The fourth CameraWatch Forum is provisionally scheduled for June 2008. For details visit the advisory body’s website.

CameraWatch, which describes itself as ‘the UK CCTV compliance body’, announces the appointment of three non executive directors to the board.

The new non executive directors are:

Watson McAteer, global head of physical security for RBS.

Russ Singleton, group chief executive of Quadnetics Limited and founder of Synectic Systems Limited.

Brian Larkins, joint managing director, VMS (CCTV) Limited.

Welcoming the new directors, Gordon Ferrie, CameraWatch chairman and founder said: "It is with considerable enthusiasm and pride that I welcome Watson, Russ and Brian to the team. Their established industry reputations as user, technology and compliance experts will further CameraWatch’s current work in promoting awareness and compliance in camera surveillance in both the private and public sector UK wide in the prevention and detection of crime."

CameraWatch is a not for profit company limited by guarantee, founded in May 2007 with the aim, it says, of raising awareness of CCTV compliance issues and helping the all connected with CCTV improve compliance. To this end, it says it has run research into some 4,000 systems to back-up its claim that over 90pc of CCTV installations are non-compliant.

CameraWatch Board:

Name:Gordon Ferrie,Chairman /Director

A former senior police officer and Head of Security Management Services for the RBS Group. Chairman of CameraWatch since its inception in 2006.

Name:Lachlan Gunn,Coordinator / Director

Former Army officer. Managed several businesses in the commercial security industry and founded Securicor Taiwan Limited. A director of Benalpin which recently expanded its operations to encompass commercial loan brokerage. Director and Coordinator of European ATM security Team Limited, a not for profit organisation.

Name:Paul Mackie,Compliance/ Director

Supports organisations in ensuring they operate CCTV in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
His 30-plus years in the IT industry with National Government and major international blue-chip organisations allow his management experience and specific previous area of compliance and legalisation of industry software within the IT industry, to bring his CCTV compliance expertise to commerce that has invested heavily in CCTV systems. His experience as Compliance Consultant with Compliance Solutions provider Datpro allows all types of business sectors, public and private, to identify and rectify the practical issues of non-compliance for their CCTV systems.

Name:Douglas Brotherston,Company Secretary /Director

Specialises in business advisory services, strategic planning and accountancy. Recently completed projects include the creation of a new process to administer Lottery Capital Projects and writing business plan guidelines on behalf of the Scottish Arts Council. Founded own business DBFM in 2001. Security background and a Major (Rtd) of the Territorial Army.

Name:Syd Heals,Technical /Director

Worked in the security systems industry in the UK and internationally, since 1978. Commenced career within Thorn EMI’s security systems acquiring technical and commercial expertise. Now a main UK Board Director of Bell and Chief Operating Officer (Commercial & Fire Division) for Bell/Securitas Group. Specific responsibilities for multi-site installations for ‘blue chip’ financial Corporations including RBS, HBOS, HSBC and Lloyds TSB.

Non Executive Directors

Name:Watson McAteer,Non Executive Director; Global Head of Physical Security for RBS.

Held his current position for the past four years since retiring from the Police having completed 32 years service. As a former Detective Chief Superintendent was responsible for managing Lothian and Borders police strategic response to crime. Has served in every rank within Criminal Investigation and Scottish Crime Squad. Was lead staff officer to Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary for Scotland. A member of The Security Institute.

Name:Russ Singleton,Non Executive Director,Group Chief Executive Officer.

Originally a development engineer working in video switching and control systems before moving into CCTV and electronic security technology to become Managing Director of Quadrant Video Systems plc, a UK based CCTV installation services Company in 1993. In 1995 he founded Synectics, which specialises in image processing and e-surveillance software. In 2002 brought the two businesses together on to the AIM market under the title Quadnetics Group Plc. Quadnetics now employs over 400 people and has electronic security activities in the UK, North America and the Far East.

Name:Brian Larkins,Non Executive Director,Joint Managing Director, VMS (CCTV) Limited.

A career in the security industry spanning almost 30 years. Beginning in the early 80s with a electrical contracting business, developed into a specialist electronic security systems company employing over 250 staff when it was eventually sold.

Video Management Services (VMS) was formed in 1997; supplier of surveillance compliance products to the CCTV industry. VMS consultancy specialises in the development and implementation of CCTV policies and annual audit and reporting services.

Former head of Security for the Clydesdale Bank (NAB) and now Branch Manager Fire and Security Scotland, for Bell Security (Scotland) Limited. An expert in the field of electronic security solutions. Advisor on DPA supplier issues.
