In-cab Security

by msecadm4921

Sleepgard, a device that gives truck drivers an early warning of a gas attack, has been developed by Protek-dor, in-cab security product makers.

Thieves are using narcotic gases, increasingly, to sedate sleeping occupants of trucks before breaking in, according to Protekdor.

Sensitive to a variety of narcotic gases, including ether, butane and propane, Sleepgard is powered using a cigarette lighter adapter. The device is responsive to very low levels of gas, it is claimed, giving the occupant warning to vacate the vehicle before the substance can take effect. Protekdor also offers a gas mask that protects the wearer from the effects of gas for an additional 15 minutes, allowing occupants to remain in the vehicle until would-be thieves depart.

What they say

“All road crime puts a driver at risk, but perhaps none more so than gas attacks, which render the victim incapable of any defence,” says Protekdor director, John Jones, himself having experienced the horror of a gas attack in his days as a truck driver. “I know just how frightening it can be to wake up in the middle of the night, aware that someone has forced entry into your cab, but being unable to regain full consciousness. Here at Protekdor, we believe strongly that it is vital for all long-haul truck drivers to have an effective defence against this sort of cowardly attack.”

The company has a range of devices that act as a barrier to unwanted cab entry. Lokgard, for instance, is a steel device that secures the lock when fitted over the cab door handle, providing a barrier to would-be thieves. Likewise, Kabgard provides the driver with protection from inside the cab and can be fitted to protect both the window and door from attack.
