Restaurant door

by Mark Rowe

A steel security fire door to protect a McDonald’s restaurant in the Midlands was supplied by ASSA ABLOY Security Doors.

Installed at one of the chain’s restaurants in Birmingham, ASSA ABLOY Security Doors made the steel doorset at its specialist site in Lisburn. To offer building security, the steel door was installed to the external back-of-house entrance, protecting people and property in the staff-only areas. The doorset can withstand the spread of fire for between 30 and 60 minutes, certified by Bodycote Warringtonfire in accordance with Certifire, ensuring the safety of staff and patrons of the restaurant in the event of an emergency, facilitating a route of safe exit.

Stephen Wilkinson, Area Sales Manager for ASSA ABLOY Security Doors, said: “It is always interesting when a project requires a balance of objectives. At this particular McDonald’s, we were aiming to maintain the friendly family atmosphere, whilst protecting the building and its users from intrusion or fire risk. Tailoring the door to blend in with the building exterior, the result was unassuming in its appearance, yet robust in its performance, accounting for both fire safety and security, at the same time as providing easy access for members of staff.

“Like many inner city spaces, the area surrounding the restaurant sees its fair share of petty crime and vandalism. We needed to ensure the protection of both McDonald’s’ staff and patrons, in order to maintain the great experience enjoyed by their customers. Despite the challenging location, we have made that happen.”
