ONVIF, the US-based inter-operability standards body for IP-based physical security products, is announcing that more than 30,000 product models meet its conformance requirements.
This means the number of ONVIF conformant, inter-operable products has doubled in the last three years and tripled since 2018. The point of ONVIF inter-operability: you can have video security systems using components, from various manufacturers.
Leo Levit, pictured, is chairman of the ONVIF Steering Committee. He said: “The demand for open systems is growing exponentially as organizations increasingly prioritize interoperability and freedom of choice for their security systems and beyond. The rapid growth rate in ONVIF conformant products exemplifies that market demand as well as to the work of our member companies that have established these successful specifications.”
ONVIF creates the inter-operability specifications that provide standard communication pathways for several security and surveillance industry use cases, including basic and advanced video streaming, metadata handling for video analytics, video recording and storage, besides physical access control. Companies that are members of ONVIF contribute to committees and working groups to create these specifications, and are working on new ONVIF standards, known as profiles, for cloud connectivity, IP audio and advanced metadata.
