GMS Security Services Ltd, the West Midlands-based guarding contractor, has been selected by the RAF Museum to deploy personnel on the museum floor to assist visitors by day, and to protect the artefacts and deal with any maintenance issues overnight. The initial three-year contract went live on February 1; pictured right is Simon Williams, GMS operations director, with uniformed officers at RAF Museum London.
The guard firm says surveillance technology is also used to protect the welfare of visitors and the historic aircraft, such as the RAF Lancaster pictured. GMS says it was able to provide an agile security solution tailored to the requirements of the Colindale, north London museum. High on the requirements list was the ability to integrate personnel with the museum’s own volunteers to provide a coherent visitor experience team. The museum sought a specialist partner that could deliver contemporary security solutions.
GMS CEO Neil Male said: “GMS engaged a site-based leader to ensure that all staff are trained to the highest of standards to protect the Royal Air Force Museum brand. We are delighted to add the RAF Museum to our list of prestigious clients, especially as GMS is a Silver Armed Forces Covenant Employer.”
Other GMS clients include Jaguar Land Rover, Aston Martin, Cemex UK, Colliers International, Grant Thornton, Triumph Motorcycles and Vax.
RAF Museum London and Midlands Head of Operations, Alan Edwards said: “The RAF Museum is committed to providing an outstanding visitor experience while ensuring the protection of our invaluable artefacts and people. Partnering with GMS Security allows us to enhance both visitor engagement and site security through a tailored approach that aligns with our values and operational needs. We look forward to working together to maintain a safe, welcoming, and immersive environment for all who come to explore the story of the Royal Air Force.”
