Dracula Domes

by Msecadm4921

Dome cameras played a part in European editions of reality TV shows Big Brother, Fame Academy and a 24-hour ordeal in the original Castle Dracula.

Producers wanted surveillance domes alongside conventional TV cameras because of their versatility, complete remote control and 360 degree rotation. Because the images were to be broadcast, the equipment provider Filmpartners International chose high-specification Honeywell Security KD6 dome cameras. The castle in Transylvania, Romania, is a listed historic monument so the cameras had to be fitted without drilling the walls. The producers also appreciated the camerasโ€™ automatic changeover from colour to mono/IR โ€“ essential when observing creatures of the night … Some 30 cameras, 15 of them Honeywell domes, were fitted around the castle, including a number of outdoor positions. The resulting programme, titled 24 Hours of Fear, and the other shows were broadcast on the Continent, including Germany, Romania and Greece.
