Turkish hospital

by Mark Rowe

Acıbadem Healthcare Group, a Turkish healthcare services provider, has some 24 hospitals, 15 medical centres and nearly 25,000 employees in five countries – Macedonia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Serbia, besides Turkey. Acıbadem sought a surveillance solution in Acıbadem Ataşehir Hospital, its latest hospital in İstanbul.

Besides protecting visitors, patients and staff, the hospital sought to ensure that no unauthorised individuals enter restricted or hazardous sectors such as labs or radiation areas. The integrator Arte Technology fitted some 900 Hanwha Vision cameras. The XNO-6080R, XNF-8010R and AI-powered PND-A9081RV models went in at specific points across the site, with the choice of camera tailored to each area.

Perimeter security

Installed were more than 100 XNO-6080R bullet cameras for perimeter security. With day and night vision, defog, and a wide dynamic range of 150 dB, plus an infra-red (IR) viewable length of 50m, the cameras can alert security staff to suspicious activity along the perimeter. The system can also detect audio and loitering, informing operators of what direction a detected object is travelling.

AI for detection

In sensitive areas, such as entrances and patient reception rooms, PND-A9081RV cameras have been installed due to their AI-powered video analytics. False alarms can be reduced thanks to the deep-learning AI within the device, the product firm says. The attribute data collected by the camera enables ‘smart search’ of video evidence after an event, which enables operators to search for persons of interest based on gender, age group, or clothing. This can help with finding lost patients or children, or tracking suspects.

Beyond security, this P series camera can provide people counting analytics, for data on the busiest days, months and times. This can inform staff planning, and cleaning schedules. Occupancy monitoring of patient waiting rooms and queue management analytics can also help in understanding occupancy and queues over the day, so that managers may open more check-in desks or deploy more staff at particularly busy times.

Detail

The fisheye 360 degree XNF-8010R cameras are used to monitor waiting areas and escalator entrances, providing a wide field of view for operators. Dewarping of the fisheye images delivered back to operators means they can view details in a scene. Thanks to this level of detail, the same cameras are used by doctors in operating rooms to monitor operations. Footage is shared back to operators, with the XRN series video recorders and SSM video management software supporting processing and storing footage for any investigations. Acıbadem also gets insights into waiting room and queue times, plus capacity levels at times of the day, to inform operations.
