Police in Stockport report that they have ‘shown the door’ to unlicensed door supervisors.
Officers arrested three unlicensed door staff following visits to licensed premises in Stockport town centre and Reddish over the weekend. A further 13 door staff were warned for not displaying their licence as representatives from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) accompanied officers on visits.
Under legislation, which came into force in November 2004, all door supervisors must complete SIA endorsed training and pass two exams before being able to apply for a licence, which they are required to wear when on duty.

Chief Inspector Stuart Barton of the Stockport division of Greater Manchester Police said: โOperation Safe was launched to ensure that all pubs and clubs in Stockport operate within national guidelines by having door supervisors who are trained to keep their customers and staff safe. Having illegal supervisors on duty puts innocent people at risk. The public can rest assured that we will be making future visits to all premises to ensure they are safe places to visit.โ
And Lucia Howland, an SIA Head of Investigation said: โThe visit on Friday is part of an ongoing operation and I would like to thank our partners at Greater Manchester Police for tackling this area so proactively. Door staff play a key part in dealing with violent crime and they are an important element of our partnership working. Working without a SIA licence and deploying unlicensed operatives, is an offence under the Private Security Industry Act 2001 and licensees risk having their premises closed.โ
