Holliday Wharf & Canal Wharf in central Birmingham is an apartment complex of 143 properties and home to 400 residents. The area has seen a surge in bars and restaurants opening, and student housing. Given the added nightlife, the Wharfโs management company perceived increasing security concerns.
James Clayton, Chair of Holliday Wharf Management, said: “We needed a system that would not only protect them but would also enhance their living experience.” Besides incidents of unauthorised access, manages had concerns about package theft and personal safety. Wharf Management sought an overhaul of the access control system and called upon Urban Stream, a security installer.
Dale Taylor, of Urban Stream, said: โThe Wharf Management team identified several pain points within their existing security infrastructure. Our goal was to develop a comprehensive solution that would not only resolve these issues but also exceed their expectations.โ Working with the system designers of CIE, Urban Stream fitted an Akuvox access control and door intercom system that covers the building and car park. The system includes a bespoke-built database (for managers to grant access privileges, and monitor system activity) and an analytics reporting system, for control over access permissions and live reporting.
Residents have expressed their satisfaction with the security and ease of use. The facial recognition has added a layer of sophistication to the complex, elevating its appeal and value to potential buyers and tenants, the installers report. The products in use are the Akuvox R29C and E16 door intercoms, and at each of the apartments features an Akuvox touchscreen answering panel. That provides high definition audio and video when visitors request access and allows residents to integrate these touchscreen panels with any smart-home automation platforms they may be using within their apartment.
The Akuvox system works with other building management systems. The Wharf has received numerous inquiries from other property management companies interested in fitting similar systems.
