Access, intercom for shared workspace

by Mark Rowe

Sopers House is a shared workspace in Cuffley, Hertfordshire, near the M25 and M1. Some 40 private offices are set across three levels; the site has besides a co-working space and supporting facilities such as such as gym, spin studio, hairdressers, nail bar, cafe, bar, restaurant, roof terrace and auditorium.

Up to 400 people use the co-working areas for hot desking. Sopers House prides itself on its offer of luxury and comfort, which it wanted its intercom and access control system over the building to reflect. Given the footfall, the site managers considered contactless authentication at all access points.

Smarthome and automation integration product firm Smart2U worked with CIE’s in-house system architects to specify and design an integrated intercom and access control system using the 2N range of Mullion IP Access Units, Access Unit 2.0 and IP Verso modular door intercoms. Internally, each of the 40 offices is fitted with the 2N Mullion Access Reader which uses Wavekey to allow contactless access around the building for customers, thanks to a variety of keyless authentication methods including key fob, RFID card and smartphone.

The access system also features 2N 2.0 Access Units which provide entry via smartphone or fob to communal areas such as the restaurant, gym and shared workspaces and other areas. Externally the system uses the IP Verso intercom – 2N’s modular product. Positioned at the main entrance, lobby and car park access, the Verso intercoms feature high definition (HD) colour camera, microphone and speaker for communication with residents, Bluetooth and radio frequency identification (RFID) authentication and touch-screen digital phonebook-keypad module which can be programmed with business names and apartment numbers, for example. This lets visitors search and dial the correct business.

Scott Foster, General Manager at Soper House, said: “The 2N access system was the best thing for us because it’s reliable, it gives us easy access and it’s easy to use for a large team.”
