i-pro (previously Panasonic) announced a new line of bullet cameras to give long-range coverage with edge AI (artificial intelligence). The products come with zoom and infra-red (IR) LED lighting, for long-distance monitoring, the makers say.
The range includes 10-times and 30-times zoom options, with long-range (up to 250m/820ft) infrared (IR) lighting for use in low-light or nighttime conditions. The products come in 2MP, 5MP, and 4K resolutions, and total some 20 models across the X- and S-series. Gerard Figols, Chief Product Officer at i-PRO, said the products were for city surveillance, critical infrastructure, and transport hubs.
Featured on X-series models, the Ambarella CV52 SoC includes nine pre-installed edge applications, enabling object detection, AI on-site learning, and incident detection in all conditions, according to the firm. With its open AI development platform for third parties, i-PRO provides the flexibility to tailor the system to meet operational needs, the manufacturer adds.
X-series models offer the ability to add AI analytics to non-AI network cameras, including cameras from other manufacturers. Each X-series camera can collect AI metadata from up to three other non-AI camera streams, towards situational awareness from legacy cameras.
Active Guard
When paired with the company’s Active Guard intelligent search application, metadata describing the attributes of humans and vehicles is delivered to Video Management Systems (VMS) such as Milestone, Genetec and Video Insight. This allows forensic search from edge-based AI analytics, besides real-time monitoring of events that require attention.
LPR models
Four models are available for capturing licence number plates at speeds (up to 130 km/h) by day or night. A Long Wavelength Pass Filter (LPF) aids plate capture in various lighting conditions, such as reducing glare from vehicle headlights at night, towards accuracy even in challenging lighting, the makers say. Vaxtor’s LPR software is bundled with the camera and licensed separately.
Figols added: “It’s the first time we are launching a third-party application bundled with our powerful edge computing cameras. The native integration of Vaxtor with i-PRO Active Guard demonstrates how our hardware and third-party software partners bring unparalleled value to mission-critical applications like city surveillance and traffic monitoring.”
As for cybersecurity, the products are NDAA and TAA compliant, FIPS 140-2 Level 3 certified and feature secure boot (X-series) and GlobalSign digital certificates. The integrated gyro sensor improves image stability during long-range zoom, reducing vibration, even in challenging conditions. And as for installation, a ball-joint mechanism offers flexible angle adjustment. The camera’s sunshade design reduces the impact of external light and rain.
