Schiphol Use

by Msecadm4921

An MX MultiViewer system from Irish firm Zandar is in the security office at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

The contract was awarded by Visual Display Solutions and installed by systems integrator GTN. The MultiViewer system is used in conjunction with one of four Bobcat LCD displays from Clarity Visual Systems, Inc, displaying 12 video channels.

Owned by the Schiphol Group, Schiphol Airport has several control rooms responsible for monitoring and control of important processes such as passenger flow in the terminal, technical equipment and crisis handling, parking and traffic on the airport premises, and safety and security.

The MX MultiViewer uses the video input feeds of around 100 CCTV cameras to provide one integrated interface to monitor sensitive areas at parking spaces and garages throughout the airport, the firm reports. Some 12 video signals are monitored on a single screen with operators able to access the security images over a comprehensive IP security network. With the images, operators also have full audio communication with the entrances of each garage building.

The MX MultiViewer offers single touch operation which provides the ability to view multiple security camera images in real-time in pre-configured displays, according to the manufacturers. Each image can be seen full screen should the need arise and is especially good, the makers claim, for spot monitoring of critical images. Operation is via the front panel buttons or remotely via the RS-232/422 serial interfaces. The front panel LCD display shows menus for user configuration for channel ID, borders, clock and date and the GPIO lines. The units are rack mountable, the makers add.

Robert Fabrie, Owner, Visual Display Solutions, advised on and specified the products to be used in installation. Fabrie says: "The system has been running very smoothly. The Zandar MultiViewer is a cost effective solution for effortless monitoring of 12 video signals on a single screen."

Robert Fabrie adds: "Zandar was chosen for this application because we felt that price and functionality were perfect for this monitoring application. We are really pleased with the results. For any future project work and installations at Schiphol we will certainly choose the MX Series MultiViewer. It is an excellent system."
