Access Control

Remote access control

Maxxess, the access control and security management software product firm, has unveiled RemotePoint, an eFusion module that allows remote access control and verification through the Maxxess eFusion security management platform.

Integrated with ambit, the company’s mobile workforce management product, the integration of the two can drive operational efficiencies across facilities management and security operations, according to the firm.

Using handheld devices, RemotePoint allows security staff to perform access control transactions anywhere, verify staff credentials and perform mustering in the event of an emergency. Already used by oil and gas plants and universities, RemotePoint allows users to establish access points where traditional access methods are expensive or infeasible, the makers say. Security operatives can perform spot checks and confirm workers with the right skills are permitted to be in certain areas. RemotePoint gives first responders information for response to incidents.

With the patented, cloud-based ambit, the two technologies act as force-multiplier to drive operational benefits, according to the product firm. ambit enables real-time visibility into staff location status to improve and streamline facilities management and security operations. With staff checking in on arrival at work via smartphones or onsite located tablets using RemotePoint, security and facilities managers are provided with real-time visibility of staff locations on a map, so they can assign tasks, request status reports, select groups or an entire team, and direct resources.

For managing facilities management teams and multi-site manned guarding, ambit provides a time and attendance tool. Heat maps and automated reporting supports routine operations such as guard tours, at the same time providing an record of events for compliance. Using a database of reports and message traffic, facilities and security managers can also use ambit for analysis and training the developers add.

At the show, Lee Copland, Managing Director EMEA at Maxxess, said, “The integration of RemotePoint and ambit enables organisations to drive significant operational efficiencies, particularly those with dispersed estates operating large facilities management teams such as hotels, retail malls, industrial facilities and large corporate enterprises. In addition, we’re enhancing the safety of staff as ambit features powerful lone worker protection functionality, enabling users to summon security or first aid assistance via a simple tap on their mobile devices. Pinpointing the exact location of where help is required, security teams are able to initiate a fast and appropriate response and dispatch responders where help is needed most.”
