VMS – video management systems

by Mark Rowe

The surveillance industry is constantly evolving and different technical challenges arise with every new emerging trend, write the manufacturers NUUO.

Like our IT partners, with the dominance of IP as a standard data protocol and megapixel counts on cameras growing higher and higher, new storage solutions and data processing algorithms had to be invented to take advantages of these new technological standards and translate them to better user experience.

NUUO Crystal won a video management systems award at the recent ISC West show. It’s built for large scale projects, with support for unlimited cameras, third party access control and point of sale (pictured) systems. With the intuitive NUUO NuClient software, Crystal provides open platform software built on Linux for VMS options. On show at F970 at IFSEC, Crystal can handle high megapixel recordings and maintain up to 250 Mbps for a single volume and up to 550 Mbps when used with volume group settings.

Linux based

NUUO Crystal is an enterprise level solution built on Linux. In recent years Linux has been adopted by Enterprise as their choice for enterprise server solutions. Linux offers freedom in vendor choice and third party support, and the cost of maintenance is minimal compared to other server alternatives, it is claimed.

NUUO claims that Crystal is secure from malware and virus attacks. It also features centralised management, allowing for server deployment and increases efficiency in managing large projects from site to site. A centralised video wall display allows the monitoring of multiple cameras across servers, saving time and improving efficiency.

Recording

Crystal also offers solid recording functions with data optimisation to maintain system availability and save disk space. As a third party integration platform, Crystal offers integration choices. With the use of NUUO SDK or TCP/IP receiver, two-way integration can be achieved. Crystal offers developers an open platform to innovate on.

Modular

NUUO Crystal separates each VMS function into modules, and then further breaks down each task inside those modules into processes. This modular structure allows for freedom in system design. NUUO describes Crystal as highly scalable and customisable due to this design philosophy. This allows users to balance server loading by sharing out the cameras and I/O devices across several recording servers. Visit http://www.nuuo.com/crystal.
