Roy's Monthly Gossip

Dominic month

by Mark Rowe

Here we are, and February already. As you know I’m always looking out for you! Let me remind you that February 14 is Valentine’s Day, and don’t forget. Because you know it’s big trouble if you do. As for this month I am going to call it the Dominic month – why?

Let’s get straight into that gossip shall we? Starting with Cop; you may have heard that Dominic Chandler-Johnson has left HIKVision and joined Cop as their sales manager, who were a customer I suppose! Dom of course has been on both sides of the fence, selling and not, much like me, he worked with other distributors (namely Norbain) and has worked with installers, the likes of Stanley and Secom, he started at ADT …. but we won’t hold that against him, shall we?

Now talking of Cop I see that Dom is looking for a business development manager, so if you’re wanting a new challenge for the new year, then give him a call. Meanwhile I see that Jessica Parry has left Cop and gone to work with IP24 ltd. That’s Jess returning to an installer which is what I believe she was doing before she joined Cop. Good luck Jess; it sounds like an excuse to party and we know you like to party lol.

Talking of Dominic another Dom in our industry, Dominic Watson-Hayes (do all the Dominics in our industry have double-barrelled second names?) has left Ajax after nearly four years and gone to work with Mark Raine, at CCTV Direct as their Commercial Director. CCTV Direct despite the name do distribute Ajax wireless alarms as well. You will note Dom’s tartan trews, I’m not sure how well they will go down in Leeds, but those who have met Dom know he’s well able to defend the honour of Scotland, not something I would wish to do, having lived there. You will recall he wore a kilt at our Security TWENTY event in Glasgow. Dom is quite new to our industry as I believe he cut his teeth at Norbain back in May 2019. It seems many of us cut our teeth at Norbain.

PureTech Systems has added Christopher Sincock as Vice President, Channel Development. Chris brings over 30 years of experience in the electronic security industry serving in roles from Product Manager, to President. Chris held executive leadership positions with Lenel Systems International where he created the Lenel OpenAccess Alliance Program, and with HID Global, Zenitel USA, and DAQ Electronics. Most recently, Chris served as a Physical Security and IoT Subject Matter Expert for Everbridge (formerly CNL), responsible for PSIM sales in North America.

Alex Buckle has joined Oprema. Alex has been in the industry since March 2015 where he started at Dedicated Micros and has also worked with Norbain.

Ben Lea has joined the detector product company GJD, who I see were out at Intersec Dubai last month, somewhat warmer than Lancashire this time of year! Anyway Ben’ll be the UK sales manager for the north of England, Ireland and Scotland. You’re going to need a long business card to get that title on it lol, Ben was at Ajar Technology (you read that right, not Ajax) before and of course Norbain lol.

At Chubb Fire and Security, part of APi Group these days, they have a number of senior hires and internal promotions under the new CEO Andrew White. Keith Mizen has joined as Chief Information Officer after four years in the same role at Vodafone Business working with multiple geographies. Rabih Najjar has been recruited to a newly created role of Global Vice President of Sales. He has 19 years of international sales experience in markets including Beirut, Doha, Dubai and London, most recently working for NYSE-listed business Vertiv. David Jackola, Vice President Controller at APi Group, has taken on the new role of Chubb CFO & Vice President of Transformation. And Stephen Dowling has been appointed Director of Quality, Environment, Health & Safety for Chubb globally. Previously he held the role for the UK & Ireland. Stephen is a Chartered member of the Chartered Quality Institute and previously spent 28 years at BAE Systems.

Brendan McNulty has been promoted to a newly created role of Vice President – Europe. Reporting to Brendan will be the country leaders of UK and Ireland; Benelux, Spain, Germany and Switzerland-Austria. KT Yiu has been promoted to the newly created role of Vice President, Asia Pacific after more than 30 years’ experience with Chubb in the region. Dave Marven, previously Managing Director for Chubb Australia, is now responsible for all activity across both Australia and New Zealand.

Nigel Flower

The UK security sector bade a farewell to one of its longest serving and most distinguished members. Colonel Nigel John Flower (1932–2022) served for more than 70 years in a career that spanned military service, corporate security management, independent security consulting and the voluntary security sectors. On entering the independent security sector as a security consultant in 1989, Nigel joined with other influential men, including the late Mike Cahalane and John Benton, seeking to raise the standards of security consultancy. In 1991, firstly with a handful of interested colleagues and meeting in a church hall, they formed the Association of Security Consultants (ASC). The governance process and Code of Conduct for independent security consultancy (that members are not tied to an end product or service) was ahead of its time and reflected the impeccable standards that Nigel and his colleagues brought. That same governance and codes remain in place at the ASC to this date. Nigel served as the ASC’s first chairman and, in 2019, was appointed its Honorary Life President. Nigel remained actively involved in ASIS International and the ASC until very recently before his death.
