Escape route doors, interlock system doors and doors with an air seal all have to be able to be opened when subject to side loads, which can be created either by the environment they are located in or by the individuals trying to escape through them.
A solution are the effeff 331 and effeff 131 electric strikes from manufacturer and supplier of locks Abloy Security, the firm claims. It points to reliability where a door is likely to be subject to side loads when it is being opened.
Escape route
The fail-unlocked effeff 331 strike has been designed especially for doors on escape routes, while the fail-locked 131 strike was developed for doors and barriers in interlock systems, where maintaining security, the makers add, is the overriding concern.
For young, elderly
In normal operating conditions, wooden or metal doors fitted with either the 331 or 131 will open easily, it is claimed, with a push or pull, making the strikes suitable for applications where the elderly, disabled or very young will be operating the doors. These single action electric strikes are extremely reliable, it is claimed, and manufactured from precision cast steel so that they can withstand harsh environmental conditions, frequent use and vandalism, according to the makers. The break-in resistance for the standard versions of these products is 15,000N for the 131 and 7,500N for the 331.
Non-escape route
Unlocking reliability under pre-loads of up to 5,000N โ which is far in excess of the 1,000N stipulated in the prEN13637 European Building Hardware standard – makes the effeff 331 security strike also suitable for use on non-escape route doors where there are high levels of side pressure on the keep, the makers add.
