A new portable CCTV camera is to be activated on the Parkside Estate in Flockton as the latest Kirklees ‘Focus’ initiative moves into the Kirkburton area in West Yorkshire.
The multi-agency operation begins on Monday 16 February and runs over two days to tackle quality of life issues for local residents.
In particular, police officers will be concentrating their efforts around Flockton, Shelley, Skelmanthorpe and Clayton West.
The Kirkburton Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out various activities working alongside the Offender Management Teams, officers on off road bikes, Fire Service, Council Parking Enforcement Officers, local Councillors, Licensing Officers, DVLA Wheel Clampers, the Council mobile CCTV van, Community Rangers, Environmental Wardens and also Dog Wardens.
Kirkburton NPT Inspector Nicholas Harvey believes the camera will be a useful tool:
“It is a portable CCTV camera which will be placed on a lamp post on the Parkside Estate in Flockton. This should act as a deterrent and will capture any incidents of antisocial behaviour or any other crime. We can then review the footage captured and use it as evidence if required. There will be signs placed on the street informing people that images are being captured and should make people think twice about their actions.
“The camera is also aimed at providing a reassurance to residents in the area who can be confident that any criminal behaviour will be seen and the culprits dealt with appropriately.
"An additional CCTV camera is also to be placed in Skelmanthorpe village centre. This is a further reassurance for residents of the Denby Dale ward, any evidence obtained from this will also be used to progress investigations"
“During the operation, we will be looking at issues such as burglary and vehicle crime. As part of this, there will be high visibility patrols in the area and visits to people’s homes where we will be providing advice about security.
“On the Tuesday night, the operation will run into the evening. Here we plan to carry out pro-active patrols in unmarked vehicles.
