York is the venue for the annual general meeting and banquet of the Institute of Professional Investigators, on Saturday September 10, at the Novotel.
After the 9.30am AGM, a seminar follows at 10.45am, where the main speaker is British Transport Police Chief Constable Ian Johnston. He will present the BTP’s scheme for authorising private investigators and private guards on the railways, to complement police on stations and at depots and for statement taking and interviewing after accidents or other incidents. The seminar is free to members of IPI, ABI, WAPI, £20 for others. The first invited speaker will be Kevern Oliver of the Security Industry Authority who will update on criteria for investigator licencing. Ian Hopkins and David Palmer will outline the IPI training system, set up with Caltrop College with the SIA requirements in mind.
After lunch there’s a sponsored river cruise for about two hours, courtesy of GH Hoffman Senior Limited, free to those who qualify to attend under the free entry arrangements or by payment, either the seminar or the banquet. Others may join the cruise for £10. The evening banquet (7.15pm for 7.30pm) has as after-dinner speaker Chief Constable Ian Johnston.
