Counter Terrorism Policing HQ is working with the Rugby League World Cup 2021 to encourage the public to be vigilant for anything that doesn’t seem right, and to report it to a steward or police officer.
On the UK official ProtectUK website are ‘trust your gut’ advertising materials that you can freely download to use whether physically at venue big screens, or on social media. Police quote research that one of the most effective things you can do to deter hostile activity is to demonstrate that your staff and customers are encouraged to be and are vigilant, and that they know how to report suspicious activity. Research also shows that one in three people want to know more about what is being done to keep them safe by organisations and event organisers. The aim, to:
– make the public aware of how we can all play a part in defeating terrorism;
– increase the public’s confidence in reporting something that doesn’t feel right and how to report; and
– support venues to disrupt hostile activity by demonstrating that security is a priority.
