Electronic design engineer

by Mark Rowe

At ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions UK & Ireland Door Group (Door Group), Cormac Hardy has joined as Electronic Design Engineer, through the Knowledge Transfer Programme Associate initiative from Ulster University.

Part-funded by the government agency body Innovate UK, the Knowledge Transfer Partnership scheme brings together businesses and academics to tackle innovation challenges to deliver economic, societal or environmental outcomes. Support is provided through the university’s School of Engineering Faculty, while the student does the day-to-day job with the business.

This new full-time role is based at Door Group in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, and is a two-year position. Cormac, pictured, will work on a research and development project that is hoped to generate products, revenue and profit, the arm of Assa Abloy says.

Brian Sofley, Managing Director at Door Group, says: “The Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme provides a link between university and business, with the ob-jective that businesses can develop ideas better and faster by connecting them to the right expertise and next generation of new talent. The scheme also enables a transfer of knowledge into the business to sustain innova-tion further. ASSA ABLOY is committed to offering opportunities to young people, nur-turing their talents, and addressing the engineering industry skills gap.”

“We are very pleased to welcome Cormac on board and are excited to see what fresh ideas he can bring to the table.”

Cormac added: “I’m really excited to be joining ASSA ABLOY Door Group through the KTP programme. It’s a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an engi-neering R&D environment, which is something I’ve been working on throughout my studies. I’m looking forward to learning as much as possible, taking on new challenges and making the most of opportunities to collaborate and travel and grow as an engineer.”
