AXIS Body Worn Live

by Mark Rowe

The network video product manufacturer Axis Communications has launched AXIS Body Worn Live. It streams video, audio, and metadata from Axis body worn cameras, for use by incident response teams (IRTs).

Wearers can activate the data stream simultaneously with recording. The operator can be notified in their management system to view GPS location data and follow along in real-time in the cloud-based application. A wearer can be notified when the operator begins monitoring. Permissions can be assigned based on roles to safeguard data integrity and transmission is protected by end-to-end encryption.

AXIS Body Worn Live works independently of the choice of video or evidence management system. The data stream can be viewed on computers, or mobile devices, and can be streamed to one or more viewers. Data is accessible for 24 hours and buffering means that no data is lost even if transmission temporarily drops out, the developers say. Cameras connect via pre-configured WIFI. AXIS Body Worn Live runs on the Microsoft Azure platform. It supports GDPR compliance and is updated with software releases and patches.

Ian James, UK Sales Engineering and Training Manager, Axis Communications, said: “The first-person perspective gained from a body worn camera can complement a fixed camera solution, gathering real-time intelligence and capturing evidence of a situation at the point at which it occurs. Integration with an operator’s VMS allows one system to monitor all cameras, both wearable and fixed, and enables the data from both wearable and fixed solutions to be combined, building a highly accurate incident report.”

Licenses for AXIS Body Worn Live will be available for purchase in the second quarter of 2023. The product can be added to existing Axis body worn cameras through firmware upgrade.

Features include:

24-hour data retention;
End-to-end encryption;
Data gap retrieval;
Works independently of video management software (VMS); and
Microsoft Azure platform
