Photo-Scan Systems Ltd has completed a œ0.5m CCTV installation at GreenPark, a business park being developed in Reading by Prudential. The CCTV rental contract, which is inclusive of equipment maintenance, was placed by consulting engineers Kelly Taylor. 26 external colour Photo-Scanners are linked to a monitoring suite that uses ?Touch-screen? technology. Transmission throughout the site is via Photo-Scan?s own fibre optic network. GreenPark has already completed or has under construction some 300,000 sq ft of office space. The CCTV control room has been planned with expansion in mind and is capable of accommodating up to 250 cameras, this first installation taking up just ten per cent of it ultimate capacity. The system was designed by Photo-Scan and Kelly Taylor working in partnership specifically to meet Home Office criteria for surveillance, which means that its performance is not only measurable against published benchmarks but will meet the client?s brief to secure the site more than adequately. The installation hardware was bought on a capital cost basis, with the remainder of the CCTV contract placed within a Photo-Scan rental agreement. ?The purpose of this split payment agreement was to include Photo-Scan within the life of the system. That way our client reaps the benefit of maintaining close contact with the CCTV supplier,? said Bill Downie of Kelly Taylor. An unusual aspect of the site contract was the decision to separate the security requirements from the overall design and build project. Bill Downie said: ?Normally, the security element of a new build project will form part of the overall contractual package and is tendered on that basis. However, this approach can lend itself to lessening the ?security? aspect of the CCTV equipment. For that reason we decided to treat CCTV as a separate item.?
