Security careers offer opportunity and variety, say a organisations behind a new publication entitled Why Security?
The brochure launched at the TWM exhibition in London is available at Jobcentre Plus offices, containing case studies based on people in the industry. They include an aviation agent working at John Lennon Airport in Liverpool, a security officer working in A&E at St Thomasโ Hospital, sisters who are door supervisors at clubs and bars in London, and an individual who started out as a security officer who is now the MD of his company.
What they say
David Dickinson, chief executive of the BSIA and SITO, says: "Some people stereotype security as a stop-gap job that doesnโt require much skill and doesnโt attract much credit. That is a myth and we hope that this publication can help to dispel it. Security has a vital role in society, protecting both people and assets. Individuals who come into the industry with determination and enthusiasm will be valued and will go far."
Matthew Nicholas, Director of Provision and Partnerships, Jobcentre Plus says: "Legislation affecting the security industry, in particular security officers, may mean that the industry could face recruitment challenges over the next few years. A high quality recruitment service will be essential in order to attract the right people for the right jobs. Jobcentre Plus is working with BSIA and SITO to help provide this service; last year we recruited around 16,000 people into the industry. The โWhy Security?โ booklet ensures that Jobcentre Plus is well equipped to educate staff and jobseekers about the legislation and the excellent career opportunities available in the sector."
And Kaye Law, Director โ Strategic Development, of the SIA, says: โThereโs never been a better time to build a future in the private security industry. In the UK, it has become an economically important and politically significant industry. Over the next four years the security industry will invest some £400m in meeting new quality standards. For those who choose to make their careers within the private security industry, the future looks extremely positive.โ
