The CCTV system in the east Yorkshire market town of Driffield, featured in our October edition, has had footage broadcast on the BBC1 Look North news programme. The footage shows someone throwing a fire bomb towards the window of a kebab shop in the town. Witnesses the next day who contacted police included the driver of a van recorded on CCTV passing the kebab shop soon after the explosion. Driffield has used the OCTAR 2000 digital recording system from manufacturer Visimetrics since April. The system was chosen after a similar attack on the same shop 17 months ago; images captured then on tape were of such poor quality that police and other CCTV backers decided to switch to digital. Ashwin Lal, Managing Director of Visual Security Systems, the installer, added: ?We were asked to assist Driffield Police in converting the recorded images on to disk for the TV station to use.? Insp David Frost of Driffield Police said: ?Showing the recorded images from the OCTAR on television helped us to make an impact with the public.?
