BOSS is joining forces with the Association for Payment Clearing Services (APACS) and police forces on a series of training days for petrol retailers.
Britain?s 12,000 service stations lost more than ล40m through plastic card fraud last year – making card fraud the largest loss to the fuel retailing sector, according to the British Oil Security Syndicate. Since the first BOSS forecourt crime survey in 1998, card fraud has more than trebled and service stations reflect this trend. Hence BOSS is joining forces with the Association for Payment Clearing Services (APACS) and police forces on a series of training days for petrol retailers in October: 8 Bristol (Innlodge at The Bridge); 9 Manchester (The Hough End Centre); 10 Glasgow (Glynhill Hotel and Leisure Club); 15 Durham (Bowburn Hall Hotel); 16 London (Metropolitan Police Sports Club, Bushey); 17 London (Metropolitan Police Sports Club, Chigwell); 18 Birmingham (National Motorcycle Museum). Each day has morning and afternoon sessions. To book, contact your oil company representative or Kevin Eastwood?s office on 01926 864757 (phone/fax) or e-mail keastwood@B-O-S-S.co.uk
What they say
Kevin Eastwood, BOSS Executive Director, said: ?Card fraud has become a significant criminal activity. No business can afford to sustain the substantial losses which it causes. It?s only by working together and training staff to take action that will avoid credit card fraud happening in the first place. These seminars are a must for all petrol retailers and staff.? Mark Bowerman of APACS added: ?This is one of the worst hit areas by card criminals, especially those using counterfeit cards, so the banking industry is pleased to combine forces with the petrol sector to reduce these losses. By working directly with the forecourt staff who are at the front line we aim to put a stop to criminals operating in the UK?s service stations.?
