BSIA personnel awards

by Mark Rowe

Members of the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) are being asked to submit their nominations for 2017’s Security Personnel Awards. The deadline’s just over two months away.

Each year, the BSIA recognises the contributions made by security personnel, through the awards. They cover five categories: Service to the Customer, Outstanding Act, Best Newcomer, Best use of Technology, and Best Team. They are presented in regional then national rounds of judging, with the national winners announced at the BSIA’s Annual Luncheon in July.

Camberford Law Plc – specialist insurance brokers to the security industry – have sponsored the awards since their inception 18 years ago. David Ottewill, Managing Director of Camberford Law, said: “It is important to recognise and reward the hard work and efforts of those dedicated professionals within the security industry. As such, we were very proud to once again sponsor this year’s awards [2016].”

The 2016 awards saw 34 regional winners and 17 national winners. Many as in past years included life-saving actions, customer service and teamwork.

Chief Executive of the BSIA, James Kelly, pictured, said: “Our industry has an incredible amount of talent on offer, many of whom go above and beyond what is expected of them each and every day. These professional men and women play a vital role in safeguarding our nation and the BSIA takes immense pride in helping to recognise their achievements.

“For our member companies, the awards present a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talents of their workforce who consistently deliver the best possible standard of service. Security personnel are the public face of our industry and are key to the continued growth of consumer trust in our industry. As such, it is hugely important that we reward the exceptional levels of professionalism displayed by security personnel.

“The awards have traditionally been dominated by the larger companies operating in the security industry; however, our awards are now regularly presented to employees of small and medium sized companies and they often pick up some of the most coveted awards. I would therefore strongly encourage members of all sizes to participate in nominating their employees for this year’s awards.”

The deadline for nominations for the 2017 awards is November 30, with the judging of the regional awards taking place in December. Those successful in the regional rounds then progress to the national round of judging which takes place in March 2017. The national award winners will be announced at the BSIA’s luncheon.

BSIA members of the Security Guarding, CVIT, Leisure Industry, Specialist Services and Crowd Management sections can nominate by completing a nomination form here: http://www.bsia.co.uk/security-personnel-awards.aspx.
