Crowd safety date

by Mark Rowe

After a launch in 2016 the second International Crowd Safety Conference (ICSC) will run alongside International Security Expo (ISEC) 2018 on November 28 and 29 at London Olympia, pictured.

Run in association with The Square Metre Ltd and Crowd Safety Training, the two day conference will see discussions on the ever changing landscape of counter-terrorism at events, training developments for crowd safety, the evolution of the crowd safety industry, managing staff and stress in critical incidents, the guest experience, and defence strategies against litigation claims.

Andy Hollinson, CEO of The Square Metre Ltd said: “It’s great to be hosting the second annual conference alongside International Security Expo this year as it gives delegates the chance to also benefit from the educational content and security innovations and services that the broader show has to offer. We have an ongoing commitment to improve crowd safety around the world and the International Crowd Safety Conference provides a perfect platform to discuss the current issues organisations are facing.”

ICSC organisers say that the events industry has seen a move away from only purpose built venues such as stadia or arenas; now events are held on public roads, greenfield sites and other ‘complex’ environments such as shopping centres or public spaces in town centres. By law, event organisers and their staff have a number of liabilities as well as a duty of care to their customers. Having enough staff to make an event safe both under the normal conditions and an emergency conditions is important, but how can you ensure that the security staff working at an event will be an effective resource in the event of an emergency? ICSC organisers ask.

The Square Metre’s Crowd Management and Security Consultant Robbie Naish says: “The answer is good robust training that allows security staff to understand an event and how it all works, backed up by good leaders who mentor them throughout the event. ‘Knowledge is Power’ so let’s share it.”

And Peter Jones, CEO, International Security Expo adds: “The extensive ICSC programme will deliver high-level insight into the key issues for crowd safety and security, alongside practical advice, best practice insight and solutions to the challenges ahead. The conference is an integral part of the offering at International Security Expo and we look forward to continuing the relationship in the future.”
