Study on Application Security Released

by msecadm4921

Security Compass, a provider of Cyber Security solutions, has recently released a new study focusing on developers and their attitudes towards application security. The report, titled ‘2022 Developer Perspectives on Application Security’, examines the challenges and opportunities involved in the secure development of software. It also looks at training as well as other resources available to developers.

What is Application Security?

Application security is a form of cyber protection that describes the measures taken to ensure that software development is safeguarded. Its ultimate objective is to prevent security concerns or issues arising from applications such as computer software or Mobile Phone Apps. Thus, the new report from Security Compass is primarily looking at the experiences of people within the development cycle of such applications.

Key Takeaways from the Report

Developers cited automated threat modelling as the top measure used to eliminate application security threats, with 82% agreeing that it was either “critical” or “quite important”.

Almost 20% of developers believe that security measures are too time-consuming in the software development process.

Additionally, 42% find it difficult to stay up to date with the Latest Security News and the relevant compliance-related information.

Perhaps as a result, security training is fairly popular amongst developers, and 32% opt to carry this out individually.

Reactive or ad-hoc security measures were undertaken twice as frequently by developers from smaller businesses than in larger companies (31% compared to 14%).

Across all companies, about a third of software requirements on average were in some way related to application security.

Despite this, only 25% of companies have brought security measures into the design stage (the process after development) of their software and applications.
