Belfast chosen for Cyber Conference

by msecadm4921

For the first time, a major international Cyber Security conference will be hosted in Northern Ireland, as Belfast was chosen as the venue for CYBERUK in 2023.

The UK’s flagship security conference on all things concerning digital security and cybercrime, will take place at the ICC Belfast on the 19th and 20th of April next year. The decision was announced earlier in September with a chief executive for the organisation behind the event saying:

“Belfast will be a fitting host for what promises to be a great event and an essential opportunity for the cyber security community to work together towards securing an open and resilient digital future.”

It’s a move that cements the city’s reputation as a growing global hub for data protection. Indeed, Northern Ireland currently possesses 4% of the UK’s cyber security workforce despite representing just 2.8% of the total population. It has also attracted a great deal of international investment from the industry in recent years. This has led to Northern Ireland becoming a hotspot for global security firms including IBM, Rapid7, and Proofpoint.

What is CYBERUK?

CYBERUK is a major security conference created by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), which is part of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). The NCSC, itself only founded back in 2016, has been regularly hosting the event that is quickly become UK’s the premier showpiece for those in the cyber security industry. Last year’s event, hosted by Newport in Wales, attracted more than 2,200 attendees.

Even the disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic hasn’t fazed the event, with CYBERUK moving online for 2021 and last year marking the first hybrid version of the conference. As a result, excitement is already building for Belfast, with 2,000 national and international delegates already expected to take part.

How beneficial are Cyber Security Conferences?

Security events provide a forum for discussion between leading companies, industry experts, as well as those looking for effective systems and solutions. This makes them highly beneficial for anyone involved in the security industry and beyond.

It’s also why Professional Security hosts events throughout the year on a range of topics and themes. You can Discover our Security Events Here for more information.
