EAS division

by Mark Rowe

Evolution, the Buckinghamshire-based fire and security installers, have launched a new division to provide Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) to retail customers in the UK and Continent.

The division, headed by Philip McKelvey, pictured, will be based in Chelmsford. The firm says that it will build on the companyโ€™s existing portfolio of retail customers by delivering โ€˜traditionalโ€™ and โ€˜next-generationโ€™ systems to protect assets before, during and even after they leave a store. As well as the more obvious โ€˜physicalโ€™ security, such as CCTV, access control and intruder alarms that Evolution already provides, it will also be extending its services into โ€˜consumablesโ€™ including security tags and labels to audit the product journey from the point of manufacture. The installer says this will particularly help in reducing shoplifting and shrinkage, as well as a trend to replace โ€˜genuineโ€™ high-cost items with counterfeited goods that are returned.

Philip, who has worked in retail security for almost 20 years, says: โ€œSince we are not tied to any one manufacturer, we can provide best-advice and consultancy on all aspects of security, working with the latest technologies from the UK and Europe.

โ€œBasic RF labels are increasingly being replaced by RFID tags with built-in intelligence that is taking security to another level. Evolution has identified an opportunity to build on its existing track record and focus on new areas of product security that meet the challenges of retailers both now and in the future.โ€
